A fast-moving storm dumped 19 inches of snow overnight. The skies cleared this morning and a bluebird pow day was in store for Alta. Everything lined up perfectly besides the intense winds that turned Utah blower into surfy snow.
We arrived after the initial rush and almost walked right onto Collins lift. At the top we observed Fred’s Trees to be shredded up so we opted to wait for the gate to High Traverse. That was the best decision we made all day as it opened within 5 minutes.
Our first and best run was right down High Boy. Top to bottom surfy speed skiing on untracked was exhilarating.  We then hit Eagle’s Nest and Thirds. The air was frigid cold and where the snow was tracked it was getting significantly less awesome.
All in all a fun day but not quite as good as 19 inches overnight sounds on paper.
