Monday’s storm did great things for the Wasatch’s backcountry. North facing slopes held high quality pow even late into the afternoon when we skied. Most of the day was full of beautiful mountain views and sparkling snow.
We skied in the Silver Fork area of Big Cottonwood Canyon. It’s a great area for new comers to backcountry skiing. The hike is short and mellow with no difficult switch backs the whole way up. The terrain down is equally as forgiving with everything from open bowls to picturesque tree skiing.
Wastach Touring is hosting a demo day at Alta this Saturday on December 10th. All the latest backcountry gear will be on site to take out and sample the goods. The latest from Garmont, Black Diamond, K2, Voile, Dynafit and Scarpa will be available for testing. Registration will open at 9am outside of Goldminers Daughter Lodge. A valid picture ID and credit card must be left as a deposit while skiing. So come out this Saturday and test the goods. You won’t want to show up late and miss out!
Don’t have backcountry boots? You can rent them at Wastach Touring Friday, December 9th at 702 E 100 S in Salt Lake City. Boot fittings will be from 5pm-8pm.
