Alta’s closing day was one to remember. It was so much fun you almost forgot they were closing a week early. The annual Frank and High Boy parties were bigger than ever with loads of entertainment all afternoon. There seemed to be quite a few injuries from the two events with multiple life flights spotted. Hopefully everyone is ok!
Down in the Goldminer’s parking lot, after the Frank World Ski Competition was over, live bands setup to usher Alta skiers into hibernation. Marinade and Stonefed lit up the dance floor with funky jams all afternoon. Stoke was high and Alta skier’s couldn’t have asked for much more from another epic closing day to the season. Thanks so much for all the support this year. We’ll see you in the fall!
Alta’s closing day was one to remember. If it weren’t for last year’s impressive final day I’d say this was by far the best closing day in memory. A 13″ storm total provided exceptional skiing conditions. The snow came in thick but not sticky. You could carry speed without concern pretty much everywhere. Alta’s slopes were so smooth it felt like a race course on all aspects.
Nobody showed up for opening chair giving the die-hards a country club like day for the first two hours. By the time the late day party goers showed Alta Ski Patrol dropped the Devil’s Castle gates to those with backcountry gear. It’s pretty rare to ski the Castle this empty and untracked making for a very memorable end to the season.
A big thank you to everyone who helped support the blog this season! See you all next year!
As far as closing days go today was hard to beat. The 13″ that fell over the past 48 hours gave Winter one last chance at redemption. Alta skiers showed up in masses to shred some tracks one last time before the 2014-2015 season officially comes to a close.
The fresh snow, although very thick, skied great where it hadn’t been tracked but once the crud started to set up conditions quickly turned south. Luckily with the Sugarloaf lift closed shots back in there remained fresh all day. Alta even opened the Wildcat lift providing access into terrain that has remained closed since it started snowing.
I hope everyone enjoyed their season this year. Thanks again for all the support! Hopefully next year we finally see some snow. Until then have a great summer!
Alta’s closing day brought lots of happy skiers ready to get their last laps in before summer officially begins. Conditions held up nicely thanks to last weeks storms but unfortunately became really grabby in the afternoon.
We found our best turns by far on Gunsight. If you were willing to deal with the sliver of snow side-step it was well worth your effort as the majority of the chute was butter-smooth and fast! Thirds was a bit of a pain in the ass to get to with it’s long stretches of rock but skied really well up top. High Boy skied decent and the bobsled course at the bottom made for some fun roller-coaster turns.
All and all Alta’s last day was one to remember. Good people, crazy costumes, funky music, and skiing in May! A big thank you to everyone for your support this year. Stay tuned this summer for more reports as the snow continues to fly.
Snowbird’s closing day brought clear skies and loads of party goers ready to celebrate another great season. Only the Tram and Little Cloud remained open but skiing down low was still decent making tram laps the way to go. The snow was a bit firm in the morning but quickly softened up by early afternoon. Around 1:00 skiers began piling up at the bottom of Anderson’s Hill to celebrate the annual pond skimming party. Participants put on a great show with everything from tricks to crashes being displayed. Snowbird is now closed for the season so get your skins out, it’s time to hike!
It was another fun day in the sun for Alta’s closing day of the 2012-2013 season. Skies were sunny and temps were hot. The skiing was decent but by early afternoon even the snow up high started to get pretty sticky. Thirds and High Boy seemed to ski faster than a lot of other slopes especially Greely Hill which was almost impossible to get down without blowing an ACL. The Nest with it’s shaded slopes was also skiing great throughout the day. The High Boy party at the end of the day drew quite the crowd and party-goers kept the festivities going well into the evening. A big thank you to Alta for another great season. Until next year, keep it classy Alta.
