Looking for something to do in the Alta community? You can always find interesting opportunities in Little Cottonwood Canyon through Alta Community Enrichment (ACE). Check out their website at altaarts.org. ACE is a nonprofit aimed to promote learning and create opportunities for individual and group participation in arts, cultural events and education.
This month they have put on live music every Sunday night at the Peruvian. They just finished a backcountry 101 Avalanche course for Alta business employees. On Friday January 20th, ACE presents Eric Foxman at Our Lady of the Snow at 6:30. He is a member of the Portland Storytellers Guild and will humor and inspire you with his true stories collected from around the world.
Also, don’t miss out on National Geographic’s explorer Mike Libecki. This is his 18th annual presentation on his adventures around the world to some of the most remote, exotic locations. This event is also a fund raiser for The Humane Society and Nepal Earthquake Fund/Human Outreach Project with a massive raffle of gear and clothing for the benefit. Hope to see you there!
Getting excited over today’s fresh snow? Then come celebrate with your fellow powder addicts this Saturday for ACE’s annual Welcome To Winter Party. Starting at 7:00 pm at Our Lady Of The Snows.
ACE will be showing all of the winning edits from last year’s Discrete Video Challenge. Also featured will be many of Alta’s local photographers. Lots of prizes will be given away as well in a raffle drawing. Come show your support for a great cause and get pumped for Winter!
Starting this Thursday (3/20) Alta Community Enrichment will be hosting it’s yearly Snowflake Festival. This four day festival will help Alta raise money for Friends of Alta, Alta Community Enrichment (ACE), and the Alta Historical Society.
Kicking things off will be a Gnome Hunt followed by live music and a yoga class with Stacy Peterson. Friday there will be a Grease themed dance party with DJ Velvet and a number of field activities including a biathlon and a snowball throwing contest. Saturday is One Piece Ski Outfit Day and your chance to ski with a ranger for free on the Cecret Lift. Wrapping things up on Sunday is the Chili Cookoff and the Snowflake Festival raffle drawing.

Alta shredder and liftie, Shannon Corey, will be performing this Monday, December 23 at Our Lady Of The Snows. Alta Community Enrichment invites you to come “brighten your holiday season this year and show your support for the amazing local talent in Little Cottonwood Canyon!” Starting at 7:00 pm Shannon will put on a FREE performance that will surely get you in the Christmas spirit. According to Shannon,
I will be playing lots of holiday favorites for you. Everything from Renaissance carols, Winter Wonderland, Santa and baby Jesus too! If you’re lucky I might even throw in a sing-a-long.

This Friday, November 22nd, Alta Community Enrichment will be hosting a welcome to winter dance party and slide show. Doors open at 6:30pm and the free slide show begins at 7:00. Immediately following the slide show DJ Velvet will be hosting a dance party for a cover charge of $5. The dance party costume theme is snow camo so dress to impress.
There will also be a big drawing with prizes from multiple sponsors. Raffle tickets are 1 for $3 or 2 for $5. The photographers that will be featured include Steve Lloyd, Re Wikstorm, Philip Potter, Brett Korpela, Steven Gelb, Mike Scirf, DubSatch Collective, Leo Ahrens & Matt Crawley. Come celebrate Alta’s opening day and get ready for an epic season!
This coming Tuesday (7/16) Alta is asking for your help in removing invasive weed species from Little Cottonwood Canyon. Meeting at 5:30 pm at the Albion Base picnic tables outside of Albion Grill, participants will help to eliminate weed species not native to Alta. This coming Tuesday, June 25th Alta Community Enrichment is hosting a free outdoor yoga class. Running from 5:30-7:00 pm at Our Lady of the Snows, Stacy Peterson will be sure to loosen your muscles in one of the most beautiful places on earth. According to ACE,
Breathe some fresh mountain air while enjoying a tranquil outdoor yoga class instucted by Stacy Peterson.
Build core muscles while developing your flexiblity, your body will thank you later.
Alta Community Enrichment will be hosting a wood carving class this Wednesday, June 5th at 5:30 pm. Held at Our Lady Of The Snows this class will teach students the basics of wood carving. Students will be carving a wooden cowboy boot and according to ACE will:
“Learn the basics of wood carving by one of the states best wood carvers! Our friend Marilyn Ure, President of the Great Salt Lake Wood Carvers will take time out of her busy schedule to teach us the secrets from her years of intense wood carving.”

Alta Community Enrichment will be hosting a free beginners line dancing class this Tuesday (5/7). Running from 6:00-7:30 pm at Our Lady Of The Snows, participants will be instructed on the basics of western line dancing. According to ACE,
ALL ages welcome, ALL abilities welcome! This is a fun class that gets you boot scootin’ by the end of the night. Bring your favorite refreshment and your friends and kick up your heels in the beautiful Little Cottonwood Canyon! Our instructors teach weekly at the Westerner, so dust off your ‘western wear’ & we’ll show ya’ll a good time !
The Telluride Mountain Film Tour is coming to Alta this Friday and Saturday (2/22 – 2/23). Held at Our Lady Of The Snows, films will start rolling at 6pm. You can purchase tickets at Alta Java or at the door for $5. According to ACE you are welcome to bring a picnic dinner (and booze) to the event so come support a good cause and soak in some ski porn. It’s sure to be a great night!
