2014-Torchlight-Noah-Wetzel

Alta’s annual torchlight parade is an event not to be missed.  It’s the one and only time each season you get to ski Alta at night.  This year a few changes have been made.  As opposed to bringing a can of food to be donated to the Utah Food Bank a $10 lift ticket must be purchased (all proceeds go to the Utah Food Bank).  Check out the full list of details below:

Celebrate the coming of the New Year! Torchlight Parade and bonfire.

  • $10 entry fee. Tickets available at both the Wildcat and Albion ticket offices and at the Skier Services desk between December 27th and December 31st. On December 31st tickets will be available prior to the parade at the Wildcat Ticket Office until 5 PM.
  • All proceeds from the evening will go to the Utah Food Bank.
  • Collins lift will start loading at approximately 5:15 PM. Skiers will unload at the angle station.
  • Participants will be allowed just one ride up Collins.
  • Children need to be accompanied by an adult and will need to have their own headlights or flashlights. Torches will be available for adults. Creative light options are welcome!
  • All participants  need to be able to ski blue, more difficult terrain with confidence in low light conditions. The parade moves at a slow pace, so speed control is very important.
  • Open containers not allowed on the lift.

Alta’s Torchlight Parade

torchlightAlta’s New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade has grown significantly over the years and for good reason, it’s a blast!  This year Alta will be hosting another great event and will be asking participants to donate a minimum of $5 to raise money for the Utah Food Bank.  According to Alta,

we now stage a more free-flowing event with no formal start time. Hopefully this minimizes the cold waiting time once skiers get off the lift and allows families to participate and to be at the base to watch fireworks and enjoy time by the fire.

Participants can begin loading the Collins lift at 5:15 pm and will ski down from the angle station to the Wildcat base.  Adults will be given a torch but children will need to carry their own headlamp or flashlight as well as be accompanied by an adult.  No open containers will be allowed on the lift and skiers should be at least an intermediate level.  Come celebrate the end of 2013 and ring in the beginning of another great season at Alta!

Alta’s 75th Anniversary Celebration!

By , January 17, 2013 4:18 PM

This past Tuesday (1/15) Alta celebrated it’s 75th Anniversary. It was a great event filled with fireworks, bonfires, smores, and a torchlight parade. Not sure if the cold temperatures scared people away but very few actually showed up to celebrate a great moment in Alta history. Big or small the party still went on and was a great time for those involved. A big thank you to Alta for helping us celebrate the mountain we all love. Here’s to another 75 years filled with deep powder and a fantastic community.

Alta’s 2012 Torchlight Parade

By , January 2, 2013 5:23 PM

This year’s torchlight parade was changed up a bit from previous years in a good way. Instead of taking the Wildcat lift Alta decided to use the Collins lift and unload skiers at midway. Lifties started loading skiers at 5:15pm and once on top participants were able to immediately grab their torches and ski down at their leisure. It took a while to load everyone by two’s but I thought the new system worked great. The fireworks were awesome and people were in good spirits all night. Thanks again to Alta for putting on another great torchlight event. Here’s to another great year of shredding pow in the most beautiful place on earth.
